What is "sniping" and how do you prevent it?

“Sniping” happens when a bidder waits until the auction is nearly over, then places a bid in the final moments so that other bidders don’t have time to respond. It's a bit cheeky and the scourge of many lesser online auction platforms, but not ours!

If a bid is placed within the final three minutes of a Car & Classic auction, we’ll automatically add another three minutes to the auction countdown. This gives you and other bidders time to react and to potentially place a counter bid.

We recommend bidding in good time to avoid disappointment due to any potential pre-authorisation requirements.

This will continue until all last-minute bidding stops, so be aware that the auction could run longer than the stated end time.
